SnapMirror update fails with RPC: Remove system error when a LIF is down

Issue

When issuing a snapmirror update command an error is generated

Error: command failed: Volume "vs0:src" not found. (Failed to contact peercluster cluster-01. RPC: Remote system error - Input/output error)

or

Error: command failed: Relationship information with destination vserver://vol/dst not found on the source cluster. (Failed to contact peer cluster node with address xx.xx.xx.xx. RPC: Remote system error - Input/output error)
