SnapMirror from ONTAP 9.12.1 or later source to ONTAP 9.11.1 or earlier destination fails with snapdiff error

Issue

  • A version-flexible SnapMirror between an ONTAP 9.12.1P4 source and ONTAP 9.11.1P8 destination fails with Error in snapdiff(Operation not supported)
  • The same error can occur between an ONTAP 9.12.1 or later source and an  ONTAP 9.11.1 destination.
  • The error is not affected by preserving Storage Efficiency (SE.)  The same error occurs for transfers using either LRSE (Logical Replication with Storage Efficiency) or LRE (Logical Replication.)
  • EMS will log:
