Snapmirror snapshots didn't delete automatically as per the snapmirror policy retention count

  • ONTAP 9.5 and later
  • Synchronous SnapMirror
  • Async SnapMirror

Issue

  • As per the Synchronous/Async Snapmirror policy(Sync/StrictSync/all Async policy), it retains 2 common snapshots on source and destination volumes.
  • This can be confirmed using snapmirror policy show -instance command.
  • After performing reverse resync, the Synchronous/Async Snapmirror volumes contains 4 snapshots on both sides.
  • Even performing Snapmirror updates won't remove/delete the old common snapshots.
