Does a LUN WWID remain the same after SVM DR failover?
Applies to
- NetApp ONTAP
- Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) disaster recovery (SVM DR / SVM mirror)
- SAN environments using LUNs (FCP or iSCSI)
Answer
-
In SVM DR, LUN WWIDs are not preserved.
-
DR destination LUNs are created as new LUN objects under a different SVM and receive new WWIDs.
-
After a failover, hosts see the LUNs as new devices.
-
Failover requires reconfiguration:
- Recreate LUN mappings on the DR SVM.
- Rescan storage on hosts.
- Update host settings (for example, multipathing or application configurations).
