Applies to

  • NetApp ONTAP
  • Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) disaster recovery (SVM DR / SVM mirror)
  • SAN environments using LUNs (FCP or iSCSI)

Answer

  • In SVM DR, LUN WWIDs are not preserved.
  • DR destination LUNs are created as new LUN objects under a different SVM and receive new WWIDs.
  • After a failover, hosts see the LUNs as new devices.
  • Failover requires reconfiguration:
    1. Recreate LUN mappings on the DR SVM.
    2. Rescan storage on hosts.
    3. Update host settings (for example, multipathing or application configurations).
