Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • NDMP backup or restore

Issue

  • In ONTAP 9 and later, NDMP file systems are specified as /[vserver name]/[volume name]
  • When a NDMP backup or restore specifies a file system containing the "admin vserver" (cluster name,) the operation fails.
  • For example, on a cluster named 'cluster1,' hosting a volume named 'data_volume,' restoring data to the /cluster1/data_volume will fail with the error Backup/Restore of Metadata Volume '/cluster1/data_volume/' is not supported
