Applies to

  • NetApp NFS plug-in for VMware VAAI
  • ONTAP ISCSI datastore
  • ONTAP NFS datastore
  • VMware Virtual Machine (VM)

Issue

  • Creating a VM on the NFS datastore with a thick VMDK works without issues
  • This confirms that the NFS plug-in for VAAI is working
  • All requirements for the NFS plug-in for VAAI are confirmed
  • Once a VM is migrated from the ISCSI datastore to the NFS datastore, the VM can only be thin (NFS default)
  • After the migration, the VM cannot be converted to thick
  • The issue stays with the VM, and not the datastore as new thick VM's can be created
