Why does ONTAP System Manager always show default snapshot name as different than cluster time

Answer

  • By design OSM default snapshot name contains UTC timestamp irrespective of cluster timezone
    • Example: snap.YYYY-MM-DD_HHMMSS

  • For clusters in UTC+1 (UK) time zone, the name will always be one hour behind
  • for eg: a snapshot created on August 2 at 08:30 UK time, will be named as 'snap.2024-08-02_073004' by default
  • For other time zones ,the difference will be hours calculated between local time zone and UTC time
