Can creation of volumes be allowed when no NAS protocol is configured in the desired SVM?

Answer

  • In Classic UI, it was possible to specify if volume was targeted as NAS or SAN volume.
  • With this specification, it was possible to alter some settings as best practice.
  • In new UI, it is not possible to specify what volume is targeted
  • Users require this option back.

Workaround:

  • When LUN is provisioned from the Storage -> LUN tab, it will create SAN volume internally for the LUN.
  • Volume is created from Storage -> Volume. This will create NAS volume by default with implicit share and export path, provided SVM is configured with NAS protocols.
