ONTAP System Manager shows warning for management LIF failover policy set to local-only during upgrade

Issue

  • Warning appears in System Manager → Cluster Update → Cluster Verification: Verify if a cluster management LIF exists

This cluster does not have a management LIF that can fail over to another node, so cluster management might be interrupted during upgrade. If the home node is rebooted during the upgrade process, all existing management LIFs become unavailable.

  • Management LIF failover policy is set to local-only
  • Cluster management LIFs do not fail over to partner nodes
