  • Disk expansion planning is based on the aggregate physical used capacity (Physical Used).
  • The aggregate is the first place where physical disk shortage occurs, making it the most critical metric for expansion decisions.
  • Capacity analysis is recommended from three perspectives:
    • Volume logical used (how much data the volume reports as used)
    • Volume footprint (volume usage as seen from the aggregate)
    • Aggregate used capacity (actual physical consumption on aggregate)
  • Among these three, aggregate used capacity is the primary and most important factor for disk expansion decisions.
