Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Cluster network switches
  • Cluster Switch Health Monitoring (CSHM)

Issue

  • Cluster switch  reports version source as SNMP instead of CDP/ISDP in CSHM after adding manually.

cluster1::> system cluster-switch create -device ClusterSwitchB -address 10.xx.xx.24 -snmp-version SNMPv2c -community-or-username cshm1! -model NX55596 -type cluster-network

cluster1::> system cluster-switch show
Switch                      Type               Address          Model
--------------------------- ------------------ ---------------- ---------------
ClusterSwitchB(XXXXXXXXXXX)
                            cluster-network    10.xx.xx.24      NX5596
     Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
      Is Monitored: true
            Reason: None
  Software Version: Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software, Version
                    7.3(7)N1(1b)
    Version Source: SNMP

2 entries were displayed.

  • Despite deleting the entry, the switches do not get auto-discovered using CDP or ISDP.

  • The switch could also show as Unsupported Model if added manually:

Switch                      Type               Address          Model
--------------------------- ------------------ ---------------- ---------------
ClusterSwitchB              cluster-network    10.xx.xx.24       OTHER
     Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
      Is Monitored: true
            Reason: Unsupported Model
  Software Version: Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software, Version
                    7.3(7)N1(1b)
    Version Source: SNMP
