Issue

  • After replacing cluster switches and performing a firmware upgrade, the ONTAP command system health subsystem show displays the following:
    'syshealthsubshow' shows switchHealthUnknown
  • Additionally, the following persistent health alerts are reported:
    Node::> system health alert show
    Node: Node-01
    Alert ID: SwitchIfDead_Alert
    Resource: Ethernet1/1/1
    Severity: Major
    Indication Time: <timestamp>
    Suppress: false
    Acknowledge: false
    Probable Cause: The interface Cluster-sw2(FOCXXXXXXXX)/Ethernet1/1/1 is up, but has not passed unicast traffic for twelve consecutive polling intervals.
    Possible Effect: The lack of transmit or receive traffic reported by the switch can indicate issues with port-level or
    switch-level data packet forwarding.
    Corrective Actions: 1) Check interface counters and neighbor discovery information to verify the port's activity.
    2) Check cluster and switch health status.
  • This alert seen for multiple ports, and persists even after clearing and re-adding the switches in CSHM
