Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • FCP
  • Cisco MDS 9000 series 9.4 (1,1a), 9.3 (1, 2, 2a)

Issue

  • During giveback, FC ports come up, but the LIFs remain down.
Example:

node::> net int show
  (network interface show)
Logical    Status     Network            Current       Current Is
Vserver     Interface  Admin/Oper Address/Mask       Node          Port    Home
----------- ---------- ---------- ------------------ ------------- ------- ----
V1    LIF01  up/down  20:01:xx:39:ea:ac:xx:28 node01 xx true
  LIF02  up/down  20:02:xx:39:ea:ac:xx:28 node01 xx true
  • EMS log show:
scsitarget.fct.loginfailed: FC port xx, NPIV port 0 failed fabric login with status of 3 and an extended status of x1a.
scsitarget.slifct.linkBreak: Link break detected on Fibre Channel target HBA xx with event status 1 , topology type 1.
  • show logging log on Cisco switch shows:
%PORT-5-IF_DOWN_LINK_FAILURE: %$VSAN 11%$ Interface fc1/x is down (Link failure loss of signal)
%PORT-5-IF_DOWN_LINK_FAILURE: %$VSAN 11%$ Interface fc1/x is down (Link failure loss of signal)
  • SFP reset on the ONTAP port does not help.
  • Port reset on the switch switch side brings back all the LIFs on ONTAP.
  • show hardware internal fcmac port xx port-event shows the following after port reset:
show hardware internal fcmac port xx port-event`
