Applies to

  • Brocade FC switch
  • Fabric OS (FOS) v9.2.2

Issue

  • After existing SNMPv3 user with Auth Protocol MD5 is modified to SHA512, SNMP stops working:
> snmpconfig --show snmpv3
User 2 (ro): testuser2
        Auth Protocol: MD5
        Priv Protocol: AES128
> snmpconfig --set snmpv3 -index 2 -user testuser2 -auth_proto 4
> snmpconfig --show snmpv3
User 2 (ro): testuser2
        Auth Protocol: SHA512
        Priv Protocol: AES128
$ snmpwalk -v 3 -u testuser2 -l authPriv -a SHA-512 -A changeme -x AES -X changeme sansw10
snmpwalk: Authentication failure (incorrect password, community or key)
  • After changing to Auth Protocol noAuth, then back to MD5, SNMP works again:
> snmpconfig --set snmpv3 -index 2 -user testuser2 -auth_proto 3
> snmpconfig --show snmpv3
User 2 (ro): testuser2
        Auth Protocol: noAuth
        Priv Protocol: noPriv
> snmpconfig --set snmpv3 -index 2 -user testuser2 -auth_proto 4 -priv_proto 3
> snmpconfig --show snmpv3
User 2 (ro): testuser2
        Auth Protocol: SHA512
        Priv Protocol: AES128
$ snmpwalk -v 3 -u testuser2 -l authPriv -a SHA-512 -A changeme -x AES -X changeme sansw10
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Fibre Channel Switch.
