How many Brocade switch ports are licensed for use with Dynamic Ports on Demand enabled?

Answer

  • This can be found with  licenseport --show CLI command output:

SWITCH1:admin> licenseport --show
   24 ports are available in this switch
   No Ports on Demand license is installed
     Dynamic POD method is in use

  8 port assignments are provisioned for use in this switch:
         8 port assignments are provisioned by the base switch allowance
    5 ports are assigned to the base switch allowance or installed licenses:
         5 ports are assigned to the Ports on Demand base switch allowance
  ports assigned to the base switch allowance:
     0, 1, 2, 3, 4
  ports assigned to the Ports on Demand license:
     None
  ports that are not assigned:
     5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14
     15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23
   3 license reservations are still available for use by unassigned ports

  • In the example above there are 24 ports on the switch, 8 ports are licensed, 5 ports are used, and 3 ports licenses are free
  • With Dynamic Port on Demand enabled, a port license will be automatically assigned to a port when the port is cabled and used
  • Prior to that, the port status will show Ports on Demand license not assigned or reserved yet
  • If additional ports are required, an additional license must be purchased and applied to the switch
