Changing volume ownership by implicit transfer involves the following events:

IO shipping implicit volume transfer 75% of the IO is sent to the the non-owning controller No Yes
Fail-back implicit volume transfer SAN connectivity is restored No Yes

Notes:

  • Implicit volume transfer is performed by controller
  • Controller cache not enabled or was internally disabled and Write-back caching fully restored are detected while change in volume ownership
  • A mismatch between Preferred Owner and Current Owner raises Volume not on preferred path due to AVT/RDAC failover event
