  • E-series
  • SANtricity OS
  • Immediate Availability Format (IAF)

Answer

  •  Yes, it is safe to use the volumes while initialization is in progress.
  • This is because volume initialization should be using IAF (Immediate Availability Formatting) by default.

  • This formats the first and last 10 MB of the volume and makes everything else parity consistent.

  • It allows for host access to the volume more quickly.

  • This allows any volume regardless of the size to be accessible almost immediately.

  • There will be no difference in how E-Series presents a volume during or after IAF completes.
