Answer

  • If a session is left open, disconnecting and reconnecting the serial cable or closing and reopening the terminal emulator may still resume the previous session if not properly logged out.
  • Always log out of the EOS shell and close the serial session when finished. This will reset the session state and require a password prompt on subsequent connections.

Additional Information

  • To disconnect from the EOS shell and return to the system login prompt, use:
    • Ctrl + ] (generic serial terminal)
    • Ctrl + 5 (if using PuTTY)
  • After logging out, verify that the next connection to the serial port prompts for a password.
