StorageGRID diskpool failure unrecoverable due to incorrect drive replacements on E-Series

  • Disk pool containing HUH721212AL5204 drives

Issue

  • Volumes in the disk pool entered a degraded or failed state due to sudden drive failures caused by running downrev drive firmware.
  • Recovery Guru in SANtricity System Manager reports:
    • FailureEntry1: DISK_POOL_DRIVE_FAILURE - Recovery Failure TypeCode: 443
    • FailureEntry2: VOLUME_GROUP_PARTIALLY_COMPLETE - Recovery Failure TypeCode: 200
  • Volume recovery efforts cannot be completed.
  • StorageGRID UI may report the following on the affected node: 
    • Unable to communicate with node
    • Storage volume needs to be restored
