VMs are showing as "Unconsolidated" in vCenter due to missing NFSv4 export policy

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SVC)
  • Virtual Machine (VM)
  • Any application or manual intervention that would clone VM's or consolidate snapshots 

Issue

  • After a VM clone or snapshot consolidation action the VM Summary shows error: 

Virtual machine disks consolidation is needed

  • The vmware.log in vCenter from an affected VM shows:

Er(02) vmx lb40gz4s-137866-auto-2ydn-h5:70053515-9e-eb-0065 ConsolidateFillSnapDiskTransferArray: Failed to fetch disk size of '/<Disk_Path>.vmdk' for consolidate: Unknown error (5)
In(05) vmx lb40gz4s-137866-auto-2ydn-h5:70053515-9e-eb-0065 ConsolidateStart: Failure while populating the snapDataPerCombineOperation array: 'Unknown error' (5)
