SCSQL backups fail after changing the SCW account password in SC UI

Issue

After an AD account password was changed in AD and the password was updated in SC UI for each host which is using the account whose password changed, SCSQL backups fail.
SCV shows errors like:
c.n.a.v.VsphereInventoryService : Looking for VM with BIOS UUID 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001
c.n.a.v.VsphereService : [JobId:12345] NVPF vSphere session is NULL, can't get vSphere service instance using null session!
c.n.a.m.DatastoreStorageDetailsCache : JobId + 12345 count reduced to 0, removing from cache
c.n.a.s.p.DiscoverResourcesManager : [JobId:12345] Storage discovery failed, received error during operation: java.lang.NullPointerException. Please refer to operation logs for more details.
