Applies to

  • OnCommand Unified Manager (OCUM) 9.5 and below
  • ActiveIQ Unified Manager (AIQUM) 9.6 and above

Issue

  • The OnCommand Unified Manager web interface becomes stale, unresponsive, and stops collecting data from its monitored Clusters
  • Events/alerts are not triggered because the server is barely functioning
  • After rebooting the Virtual Machine instance of OnCommand Unified Manager (vApp), functionality resumes for a relatively short period of time until responsiveness slows down and it needs to be rebooted again
  • In some occasions the AIQUM services may not start at all after a reboot

In Support Bundle's 'jboss' folder, review the 'au_error###.log" file for the following content:

# There is insufficient memory for the Java Runtime Environment to continue.

# Native memory allocation (mmap) failed to map 12288 bytes for committing reserved memory.

# Possible reasons:

# The system is out of physical RAM or swap space

# In 32 bit mode, the process size limit was hit

# Possible solutions: Knowledgebase

# Reduce memory load on the system

# Increase physical memory or swap space

# Check if swap backing store is full

# Use 64 bit Java on a 64 bit OS

# Decrease Java heap size (-Xmx/-Xms)

# Decrease number of Java threads

# Decrease Java thread stack sizes (-Xss)

# Set larger code cache with -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=

# This output file may be truncated or incomplete.

# # Out of Memory Error (os_linux.cpp:2643), pid=6920, tid=0x00007f30c27e9700
