How to consolidate Active IQ Unified Manager from UM 9.7P1 version and later
Applies to
Active IQ Unified Manager 9.7P1+
Description
With Unified Manager (UM) 9.7P1, the scale number recommendations have improved from 72 to 150 nodes. With this, users may want to consolidate multiple Unified Manager instances from remote sites into their primary instance to take advantage of higher scale numbers.
The article intends to help users with the consolidation i.e. merging all the nodes being monitored in multiple Unified Manager instances to be managed by a single instance as long as the number of nodes does not exceed 150.
Note:
- This is applicable only for Unified Manager 9.7P1 and higher versions.
- Users will still have their historical data in the older instance. The procedure does not support migrating historical data.
- Post consolidation, the Unified Manager instance will only hold new data for all the clusters that are being added.
- For all the new clusters added, the consolidated Unified Manager will have last 15 days of performance data captured by default.
What is out of Scope:
- The exercise does not migrate historical data (Performance, Capacity and Data Protection) from old instances.
- Specific settings on the remote servers – Performance Thresholds, Storage Efficiency Policies, Alerts they have set up for Events, Events they have disabled, Scripts they may have set up on the remote UMs, Custom Report schedules needs to be recreated in the new Primary Unified Manager host.
- Any vCenters in the remote site need to be re-added to the primary Unified Manager instance.
- Performance Service Levels (PSLs):
- If the clusters in remote sites had ONTAP adaptive QoS enabled, nothing needs to be done.
- If PSLs were enabled in Unified Manager instance, the same policies need to be re-created in the Primary Unified Manager instance.
- Commvault integration with Unified Manager needs to be recreated in the consolidated instance. This is out of scope from this document.
