ActiveIQ Unified Manager alert for Flash Disks - No Spare Blocks is received

  • OnCommand Unified Manager (OCUM) 9.5
  • All Flash FAS (AFF) arrays

Issue

ActiveIQ Unified Manager alerts on:

  • Flash Disks - No Spare Blocks
  • A solid-state drive (SSD) has consumed at least 80% of its internal spare blocks.

ONTAP might report two events related to spare blocks consumed:

  • At 60% consumed: shm.threshold.spareBlocksConsumed
  • At 80% consumed: shm.threshold.spareBlocksConsumedMax

Messages similar to the following are seen in the cluster event logs:

Wed Mar 02 23:55:09 MST [node1: disk_health_mon: shm.threshold.spareBlocksConsumed:notice]: shm: There are 1 disks that have consumed at least 60 percent of their use-based internal spare capacity. The affected disks are: 0a.00.3.
