StorageGRID ILM scan rate reduced when migrating data from HDD to SSD pools

  • StorageGRID 11.9.0.7
  • S3 buckets with object versioning enabled.
  • Environments using applications with S3 versioning.

Issue

  • Slow migration of data from HDD to SSD pools after GRID with SG6060 was expanded with SGF6112 nodes.
  • ILM scan rate dropped from 4000+ objects/sec (SGF6112) and 1000+ (SG6160) to below 100 objects/sec.
    • Graph below can be accessed through Nodes > Storage node > ILM > Evaluation > Scan rate
    • Click the blue graph icon on the right side.

  • Alerts for SSD storage pool filled above 80% triggered.
  • High S3 PUT latency (sometimes >30 seconds).
