Answer

The operating system of servers in the StorageGRID environment is Linux, and all C programs that run in a Linux environment use standard system error codes.  Therefore, when checking the bycast.log or bycast-err.log for troubleshooting you might notice certain error numbers.

In the bycast.log, the EXXX error codes map exactly to the standard system error codes:

Examples:

  • Oct 10 17:44:28 servername ADE: |12093429 14014 000051 SVFY %DED 2011-02-15T17:44:28.457162| WARNING 0823 SVFY: StorageReader ended with I/O error 'E005'

From the Error Code Table below, error 5 or E005 means that an 'I/O error' is reported.

  • Oct 10 12:59:45 servername ADE: |17036084 1026 000040 IP4F ECPL 2006-10-16T12:59:45.037611| WARNING

0436 IP4F: Error E104, Connection 24

From the Error Code Table below, error 104 means a 'Connection reset by peer'.

Note: These errors are also known as Linux C Programming error Codes, since Linux is written in the C programming language.

The following is the list of error numbers and their descriptions in the Linux operation system. To know the description of an error code, refer to this table.
