Does EC rebalance write data to expansion shelves

Last Updated:

Applies to

  • StorageGRID
  • SG6060
  • Site consists of X nodes while X-n nodes have Expansion shelves

No, rebalance aims to have the same amount of data per node after nodes are added. It does not take expansion shelves into consideration, unless all nodes have expansion shelves.

Additional Information

  • EC rebalance only moves erasure-coded object data. It does not move replicated object data.

  • Does not consider the replicated data usage on each Storage Node when determining where to move erasure-coded data
