StorageGRID compute node boot stuck due to Read Capacity failed on sda device

Issue

  • The compute does not complete boot up with the following errors printed in BMC KVM console:

[176157.538187] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Read Capacity(16) failed: Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[176157.548166] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Sense not available.
[176157.548520] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Read Capacity(10) failed: Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
[176157.563083] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Sense not available.

  • If the node was previously booted up successfully, the same errors may be found on a running node in the kern.log under /var/log.
