SANtricity Update Stuck via StorageGRID Manager:  GDU Service Currently Busy

Issue

  • StorageGRID FW has been updated successful before the SANtricity upgrade.
  • During an attempt to upgrade the SANtricity OS via GRID Manager, the upgrade failed with the following error message with the previous SANtricty FW instead of new FW version as upgrade file, even the new FW has been selected before for the upgrade:

The GDU service is currently busy. Try again later.

  • The `gdu-server.log` contained the following entries:

I, [2025-07-21T09:40:45.013694 #20573] INFO -- gdu-server: GDU Server lock currently held by Santricity OS Update
E, [2025-07-21T09:40:45.013746 #20573] ERROR -- gdu-server: GDU Server is locked. Unable to process client request Software Update.
E, [2025-07-21T09:40:45.013823 #20573] ERROR -- gdu-server: Task failed: "SoftwareUpdate"

  • Restart of gdu-server service caused hotfix error:

gdu-server: Executing command '/usr/sbin/execute-hotfix.py -src /var/local/install/RCB 11.80. 1R4_280x 67fe96d2. dlp -destDir /var/local/tmp/hotfix-stage -cleanup -persistFile -- -- apply 2>&1' on
INFO -- Executing execute-hotfix.py with arguments: -src /var/local/install/RCB_11.80. 1R4_280x_67fe96d2. dlp -destDir /var

ERROR -- Unable to execute command. Invalid hotfix file: /var/local/install/RCB_11.80.1R4_280x_67fe96d2.dlp. Expected TGZ format.
