How to change EC schema for an existing EC profile
Applies to
StorageGRID
Answer
- You will have to implement the change by creating a new EC profile with the new EC schema you would like to use.
- Once you have created the EC profile with the newly desired schema you will have to make an ILM change to implement the new EC profile where the original EC profile was utilized.
- You can opt to implement this new EC profile in one of two ways:
- You can update the ILM policy with just the newly used EC profile and completely remove the original EC profile from the ILM policy.
- This will cause an increase usage in resources due to the amount of changes being processed by ILM initially as objects are re-encoded to the new EC.
- This can be managed by changing the ILM scan rate.
- StorageGRID clients report poor performance after recent ILM rule and policy changes
- How to change ILM scan rate in StorageGRID 11.6 and newer releases
- You can keep the original rules of the original EC profile but then before the rules for the old EC profile in the ILM policy place a new rule for objects ingested after a set date to only apply the new EC profile to the objects on ingest or modification.
- If data is not ingested or modified though it will remain in the original EC profile until touched.
- You can update the ILM policy with just the newly used EC profile and completely remove the original EC profile from the ILM policy.
