Snapcenter exchange backup failed with error Failed to add to snapshot set

Issue

  • SCE backup fails with errors like below.

Example:

Activity 'Creating Backup' failed with error: Error: Failed to add to snapshot set. [C:\] [Error Code:-2147212530] [VSS_E_VOLUME_NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_PROVIDER] [Error Code: -2147212530] [VSS_E_VOLUME_NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_PROVIDER]

  • Windows Event Log reports the below VSS error and backup is getting failed immediately after this error.

Example:

EVENT ID: 513

Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

Details:
AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol.

System Error:
Access is denied.
