SnapManager for Hyper-V Backup Failures Due to Missing ONTAP License

Applies to

  • NetApp ONTAP 9.13.1P7 (and possibly later)
  • SnapManager for Hyper-V (SMHV)
  • SnapDrive for Windows environments

Issue

Backups performed by SnapManager for Hyper-V are failing on ONTAP systems. The backup job logs repeatedly show the following error:

SnapManager for Hyper-V is not licensed on the host or in the Storage System, backup is aborted

Other symptoms:

  • All Hyper-V VM backup jobs fail.
  • Error present in SMHV backup reports and SnapDrive logs.
  • No recent configuration or environment changes.
