SnapCenter plug-in upgrade fails with "Invalid host credentials" error

Issue

Upgrade of SnapCenter Windows-based plug-ins fails with the following errors:
 
SnapManagerWeb_<JobID>.log
 
ERROR SnapManagerWeb_<JobID> PID=[<PID>] TID=[<TID>] The domain <Domain_Name> is either not registered with SnapCenter, or not a trusted domain of any of the registered domains.
If the domain <Domain_Name> is a trusted domain of one of the registered domains, then either login with a user of the registered domain or use the Get-SmTrustedDomain commandlet to discover all the trusted domains. After the trusted domains are discovered, you can login using domain <Domain_Name>. For workgroup users, do not use the following format: Hostname\UserName.
 
ERROR SnapManagerWeb_<JobID> PID=[<PID>] TID=[<TID>] Invalid host credentials. Credential name: '<Credential_Name>'. Login Failed. Invalid username or password. Please check your credentials.
