SnapCenter created snapshots do not get deleted by SnapVault retention Policy

  • SnapVault
  • ONTAP 9.3 or higher

Issue

  • Backups fail on the SnapVault update, because the destination volume contains more than the maximum number of allowed snapshot copies. 

  • SnapMirror shows unhealthy and fails with below error:

Reason: 'Transfer failed'. Last Transfer Error 'The number of Snapshot copies on destination volume "volume_name" has reached the maximum supported count of <count_set_by_policy>.""

  • SnapMirror audit logs report:

Hourly snapshot(s) on <svm_name:volume_name> do not match the rules in Policy <PolicyName>.
