SnapCenter Server upgrade exits without error, but upgrade does not complete

Issue

SnapCenter Server upgrade process starts and exits without any error message being displayed, however the upgrade does not complete.
 
The following errors can be seen in the InstallShield.log:
 
(CLR Action): CheckNLBAlreadyConfigured: Info: Number of Node: 2
(CLR Action): CheckNLBAlreadyConfigured: Info: Getting the product version from remote node
(CLR Action): CheckNLBAlreadyConfigured: Error: Exception occurred: Threw Exception.Type: System.NullReferenceException, Exception Error Code: 0x80004003, Exception.Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
(CLR Action): StackTrace:    at BundleCSActions.BundleCSActionsClass.CheckNLBAlreadyConfigured(Object pDispatch)
Action returned value 0x00000643
Action 'CheckNLBAlreadyConfigured' returned status 0x80070643
