Issue

  • SnapCenter restore operations for a SQL database  fail with the following error.

Error: Job[xxxxx] Activity[ApplicationClone] failed with error: Failed to restore. There is not enough space on the disk.Info: Restore job[xxxxx], HostName[<SQL Host>], HostOS[MicrosoftWindowsServer2019Datacenter], Plugin[SMSQL5.0.0.4258], database[GuestTracking], status[completed with errors], CompletionTime[00:16:02]...Failed to mount the clone filesystem. Details: Timeout getting cluster disk to be online....Windows Event Logs:Ntfs, 55: "A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume D:."Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering, 1066: "Cluster disk resource 'ClusterDisk3' indicates corruption for volume..."

Symptoms:

  • SnapCenter restore job status: “completed with errors”
  • Application Clone failed with “not enough space on the disk”
  • Timeout getting cluster disk to be online (multiple retries, then failure)
  • Windows Event Log shows NTFS errors and cluster disk resource failures
  • The restore destination drive (e.g., M:) has very little free space (e.g., 10GB), while the restore requires much more (e.g., ~400GB)
  • Changing restore destination to a drive with sufficient space (e.g., S: with 729GB free) allows successful restore
