SCV vault update fails to send failure email with error javax.activation

Issue

When performing a backup with secondary vault update, the backup succeeds with an error occurring in the vault update but fails to send the failure email. The vault job is then marked failed to send email with the error
 
Failed to send email: class org.eclipse.angus.mail.handlers.text_plain cannot be cast to class javax.activation.DataContentHandler (org.eclipse.angus.mail.handlers.text_plain and javax.activation.DataContentHandler are in unnamed module of loader org.springframework.boot.loader.LaunchedURLClassLoader @7dc7cbad)
