SCSQL backup failure due to storage discovery with VMDK disks

Issue

  • SCSQL backup of database(s) housed on VMDK disks fails with a storage discovery failed error:
SMCore_XXXXX.log (on target SQL server)

  • The corresponding SCV vmcontrol job log shows an error with returning a session with the vSphere service:
