SCO clone is not created using selected log backup instead it creates using latest log backup

Answer

While performing a clone from CLI, It gives below message. However it takes only latest log backup instead selected log backup. 

INFO: Recovery of the cloned Oracle Database will be performed using all the available logs in the immediate log backup after the data backup chosen for clone because neither SCN nor time is specified.

  • If the logs are not pruned then latest log backup gets mounted, if logs are pruned then log backup immediately after the data backup is mounted.
  • As per this statement the INFO log message will only be applicable when pruning is enabled.
  • Without pruning enabled SCO considers that the latest log backup will also have the logs of previous log backup and by design selects the latest log backup for recovery.
  • In next SnapCenter release will change the INFO log message based on pruning enabled or disabled.
