Is a Snapshot still usable in SnapCenter if the rename process fails?

Answer

The Snapshot is not usable in SC, as SC has registered the intended Snapshot name, and not the failed Snapshot name as it appears in the ONTAP volume.

Additional Information

  • Manually renaming the Snapshot in ONTAP, to match the name in the SC NSM repository, will NOT make the Snapshot usable in SC either.
  • The recommendation is to leave the Snapshot as is, and if required, a manual restore via ONTAP can be performed using the Snapshot.
  • Once the retention period has passed, the Snapshot can be manually deleted if it is not automatically deleted by the retention policy.
