If SCV does not display all secondary snapshots, is it possible to import them?

Answer

No, it is not possible to import these snapshots into SCV, for the following reasons:

  • SCV only displaying some secondary snapshots, eventhough the snapshots exist in ONTAP,  is typically caused by the SCV snapshot check timing out (default 2 hours) before the snapmirror transfer has completed.
  • When this timeout occurs, the secondary snapshot metadata is not written to the SCV NSM repository, and it is unfortunately not possible to rescan the secondary storage, or enter the snapshot metadata manually.
  • This means that it will not be possible to restore these snapshots using SCV,  but if these snapshots do exist in ONTAP, they can be manually restored if required.
