  • NetApp ONTAP 9.x versions
  • VMware vSphere environments using NFS FlexGroup
  • VM provisioning/cloning via template

Issue

  • When provisioning (cloning) a VM from a template on a NetApp FlexGroup NFS datastore, the operation is extremely slow (taking up to 2 hours) or fails outright.
  • In vCenter, the task fails with an error similar to: Error caused by file /vmfs/volumes/<datastore-uuid>/<vm-name>/<vm-disk>.vmdk
