Unable to Add NetApp Storage System to ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere Due to Certificate “SubjectAltName” Error

Issue

  • When attempting to add a NetApp storage system (FAS2750 running ONTAP 9.11.1P7) to ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere (OTV), the following error is displayed:
The certificate is invalid or is missing the 'SubjectAltName'

or

The certificate is invalid or is missing the 'SubjectAltNameIP'
  • This occurs after renewing the ONTAP CA-signed certificates and enabling certificate authentication, either when uploading certificates manually or using automatic detection from the ESXi host. The error persists when attempting to add the cluster via both IP address and FQDN.
