  • VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 9.x

Issue

During a scheduled disaster recovery (DR) failover using VMware SRM and ONTAP Tools for VMware (OTV) 10.4, the SRM failover operation fails with the error:

Failed to promote replica devices. A general system error occurred: N2Dr3Xml20XmlValidateExceptionEvalue '' does not match regular expression facet '[+\\-]?[0-9]+'

  • VMs are unavailable at both the source and destination sites post-failover.
  • vCenter shows only placeholder VMs; unable to power on VMs.
  • SRM/OTV logs show repeated SnapMirror state checks and timeouts.
  • Example OTV logs:

"Not all snapmirror relationships are broken off. Retrying..."
"Not all snapmirror reached desired state. Retrying GET..."

  • Failover attempts leave VMs offline, requiring restore from backup for recovery.
