ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere Upgrade from 9.10 to 9.12 Fails

Issue

  • During the ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere (OTV) upgrade to version 9.12, an error appeared and then the VM rebooted
  • An error message and password menu was displayed

Error - Your Administrator and Database password is expired or does not match password policy

When the administrator password reset was attempted, Java errors were produced

  •  java.lang.RuntimesException: Error encrypting at com.netapp.vasa.vvol.support.SecurityManager.encryptString(SecurityManager.java:152)
  • Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Missing argument at java.base/javax.crypto.spec.SecretKeySpec.<init>(SecretKeySpec.java:92)
  • Error updating SRA credential file

Following the steps from the "Workaround" section of KB, "ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere services do not start after appliance reboot or upgrade", resulted in the above reboot, menu, and Java errors.
