ONTAP Tools for VMware Appliance shows degraded state after upgrade to 10.5P2 – Post-Upgrade Steps Failed

Applies to

• ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere (OTV) 10.5, 10.5P1, 10.5P2
• ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere environments with multiple vCenter instances
• Upgrades from OTV 10.5 or 10.4 to 10.5P2

Issue

• After upgrading the ONTAP Tools for VMware (OTV) appliance from version 10.5 (or 10.4) to 10.5P2, the appliance status in the OTV Manager Overview tab reports as Degraded.
• The following errors are observed in /var/log/ansible-perl-errors.log and/or /var/log/upgrade-run.log:

Post-upgrade steps have failed
Please refer to the post-upgrade recovery steps and log error summary file at /var/log/ansible-perl-errors.log

HTTP POST/PATCH error code: 400
HTTP POST/PATCH error message: 400 Bad Request
HTTP POST/PATCH error content: {"error":{"code":"error_invalid_value","message":"value is missing/invalid","target":"value"}}
Failed to patch vCenter with GUID <GUID>
or

HTTP POST/PATCH error code: 500
HTTP POST/PATCH error message: 500 Internal Server Error
HTTP POST/PATCH error content: {"error":{"code":"app_internal_error","message":"Post \\"https://<vcenter-fqdn>/sdk\\": tls: failed to verify certificate: x509: certificate signed by unknown authority","resolution":"Contact NetApp support."}}
Failed to patch vCenter with GUID <GUID>

• The OTV plugin and Tools Manager may show the new version, but the appliance remains degraded.
• This occurs only in environments with more than one vCenter instance registered in OTV.
