  • ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere 10.1 (OTV)
  • ONTAP Tools for VMware vSphere 10.0 (OTV)

Answer

No.  This currently is not supported.

When deploying OTV10 (10.2 and earlier) in "high availability" mode, OTV will use the name of the primary node (node 1) to name the partner nodes (2 and 3).  For example:

otv-node1

otv-node12

otv-node13

If the VM names of node 2 and node 3 are manually changed, then during the reboot of the primary node, the following will happen:

  • The primary node will check to confirm that nodes 2 and nodes 3 exist
  • As these nodes have been renamed, the primary node believes that node 2 and node 3 do not exist
  • The primary node will recreate node 2 and node 3
  • There will be duplicate VMs for both node 2 and node 3

RFE COTV-3921 has been raised to improve this behavior.
