Failed to validate storage system credentials when connecting to the controller

NetApp ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere v9.13Px

Issue

  • After selecting the ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere (OTV) plugin Storage Systems tab, the storage system reports the following message:

"Unknown" Error = "Failed to validate storage system credentials: An unspecified error occurred when connecting to the controller"

  • The message may also be displayed when rebooting the OTV appliance
  • Rebooting the OTV VM causes the ONTAP storage to come back with the cluster and SVM status as normal
