Active IQ Unified Manager 9.7+ vCenter server acquisitions fail with the error: "The vCenter data cannot be processed"

Active IQ Unified Manager is unable to acquire vCenter datasources,  presenting the error message:  "The vCenter data cannot be processed"

The errors below can be found on /var/log/ocie/au.log in Linux, and in \ProgramData\NetApp\OnCommandAppData\au\log\au.log  in Windows. 

2020-03-27 00:05:03,938 ERROR [pool-3-thread-1601] c.o.s.a.d.v.b.VirtualDiskBuilder ( - Error while building virtual disk config data for vCenter java.lang.NullPointerException

2020-04-02 14:59:41,930 ERROR [pool-3-thread-129] c.o.s.a.f.d.BaseDataSource ( - xx.xx.xx.xx [Internal error] - The vCenter data cannot be processed. ([Device name General Device]: The vCenter data cannot be processed.)
