ONTAP Select HA Cluster Creation Fails Due to Shared Internal Network Configuration

Applies to

  • ONTAP Select (all versions, especially 9.14.1P5 and later)
  • ONTAP Select two-node HA clusters
  • VMware vSphere environments hosting ONTAP Select clusters

Issue

When attempting to create an ONTAP Select two-node HA cluster, the process fails during post-deployment. The cluster management IP GUI is available, but logon is not possible and the cluster remains in a non-functional state. Connectivity checks between nodes fail, and the cluster cannot be created.

Log Output/Symptoms:

  • Cluster remains in “PostDeploy” for over 24 hours.
  • Unable to log on to the cluster management GUI.
  • Network connectivity checker fails between ONTAP Select nodes.
  • No errors on ONTAP Deploy instance.
  • Example error context:
    “Unable to create cluster”
    “Single internal network shared by both nodes”
